/ The roof door
The replacement.
The technician came back before the rain. He had the correct part and a receipt made out to me.
I paid him. He took the old latch off, fitted the new one, and swept the metal filings into his hand. There was a clean rectangle where the old plate had been. The rest of the door looked as though it would object to being replaced.
He let it close. Then he opened it and let it close again. I asked whether it would hold in the wind. He leaned against it. It held.
He left the spare screws beside the heater. I put them in a drawer downstairs, in an envelope with the receipt.
The sheep was waiting by the charging lead. I brought up the feed, set the bucket down, and heard the door catch behind me.
Before I went downstairs, I checked it again.
