Me: The roof door belongs to the building.

Management: The roof is used for your animal.

Me: The door is also used by everyone who goes through it.

Management: Animal-related improvements are the responsibility of the owner.

I wrote “door-related improvement” in the margin. The woman at the desk read it and handed the estimate back. She said she could submit it for review. Review would take ten working days.

The technician had left his number at the bottom. He could come tomorrow if someone approved the cost.

I could spend ten days establishing ownership of a broken door, or thirty-eight dollars making it close. I called the number.
