A photograph is apparently evidence until payroll sees it.

The same photograph established my whereabouts and failed to establish a parking expense.

In the morning, Bryant said it put me at the scene. In the afternoon, payroll said there was no evidence I’d been there. I offered to have them speak to each other. Neither department considered that necessary.

The photograph shows the building, my car, and a parking meter. There’s a clock in the window. I enlarged it. Payroll asked for the original. I sent the original. They said the meter was too small.

I’ve spent years examining photographs for things people hoped I wouldn’t notice. This one contains something I’m actively pointing at. Apparently that complicates matters.

They’ve asked for a witness. The only person who was with me is unavailable for administrative reasons.

I put the photograph back in the drawer. It’s a good likeness of a place I’d rather not have been. I paid six dollars to stand outside it.
